The Magnet School, Permit with Transport, and Public School Choice application is getting mailed home now. There are lots of changes for the better so lets highlight a few.
- The list of schools has been redesigned for easy reading. English Version. Spanish Version.
- Local District Magnet Fairs for LD 3 and LD 4. Both are December 4th from 9am to 12 noon. LD3 is having their Faire at Cochran Middle School and LD4 is having their Faire at Melrose Elementary.
- Greater outreach with a list of every open house for participating magnet school
- New KCLS 2011 TV program talks about the choices process
- 4 new Magnet schools
- New electronic method to confirm receipt
Some things have not changed. The difference between PSC and PWT are still a little murky, and are still included as an either/or option to Magnet schools. We still struggle with the Magnet office to get data we need to update our map. We are linking to last year’s Magnet Map, the numbers are not up to date but a close approximation.
We’ve also created a rudimentary comparison chart for all of the school choices facing you (We’ll try and tidy up the chart for you soon).
And HCC’s Videos, a little dated but still around. We debunk Magnet Myths, explain What is a Magnet School, and explain How to Apply

School Choice in LAUSD is overwhelming. My advice to Parents; start looking through the Magnet brochure and circling schools you might be interested in. Go to echoices.lausd.net and find out when those schools are having open houses. Go to one of the Magnet Faire’s if it serves your area. I’ll put a personal plug for the Cochran Magnet Faire where I will be hosting a session on how to fill out the Magnet application, avoid common mistakes and answer all questions. Good Luck.
